An apple a day keeps the doctor away

Did you know that there are over 7,500 varieties of apples grown worldwide. The old saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away might just have some truth.

Apples are rich in pectin which is a complex carbohydrate and a soluble fibre found in the walls of plant cells.

Apple pectin is particularly beneficial for digestive disorders and is often used naturopathically to regulate bowel movements. It can help firm stools and stools and reduce inflammation associated with diarrhoea, as well as help with constipation. It is also used to help treat colitis, irritable bowel disease, and other related digestive disorders.

Apple sauce is really easy to make and once cooked the pectin from the apples is fuel for the beneficial bacteria and lining of our guts therefore can help promote accelerated healing in the gut. Furthermore, apple sauce helps remove toxins from the spleen!

Cook the apples for around 15 minutes or until the skin is shiny and the apples are soft. This can be stored in the fridge for up to three weeks in an airtight container.

Take one tablespoon per day.
